When you’re trying to quit porn, don’t resist or fight urges, or ignore them or try to distract yourself.
The only way to learn to get through urges is to actually feel them.
So don’t try to fight them, don’t try to resist them.
Don’t try to make yourself stronger.
Think about a rock in a river, water goes over the rock, be the rock in the river, just breathe, and you let the urge pass by you.
It’s just a feeling in your body.
It is just an emotion in your body.
It is caused by the thought, I want to look at, or I need to, whatever is going on in your brain, just a thought, in a feeling, in an emotion, you just get to feel that.
That’s how you want to get through it.
If you try to fight it, it gets stronger.
If you ignore it, it just keeps coming back.
If you try to distract yourself, it’ll just keep coming back.
It’s something that you need to almost let go of.
Let it pass and wash over you.
Calm yourself, calm your body so that your mind will follow.
And that’s how you get through them.
Everything else is not the right answer.
I used to work with this crazy Austrian guy.
He would say, not only is that wrong, it is the exact opposite of the right answer.
But it’s the same thing here.
If you’re not just feeling it, everything else is the exact opposite of the right thing to do, because it’s just a form of resistance, a form of denying, a form of ignoring.
You’re having an emotion.
It’s not a big deal.
You have emotions all day long.
Why are the urge emotions troublesome?
That’s what we’re gonna dig into.
That’s what you gotta learn how to feel.
My name is Matt, I help guys get free of porn.
If that’s what you need help with, I can show you how to allow urges and unwire your brain from porn.
